Hesston® by Massey Ferguson® Introduces Tier 4 Final WR9800 Series Self-Propelled Windrowers

Industry-leading WR9800 Series offers fuel efficiency, power and higher speeds while meeting air-quality requirements

AGCOPower, fuel- efficiency and greater operator convenience are key features designed into the new WR9800 Series self-propelled windrowers from Hesston by Massey Ferguson, the industry leading hay equipment brand of AGCO (NYSE:AGCO). Two new Tier 4 Final models deliver Hesston's smooth, consistent cut and uniform, precisely conditioned windrow plus a quiet, comfortable ride that makes long days in the field easier. Producers may see the WR9800 Series at the 2014 World Ag Expo, Feb. 11–13, in Tulare, Calif., at the AGCO display just off the North Greenbelt between Q and R Streets.

"These two new machines build upon the industry-leading innovations introduced in 2011, when the WR Series debuted," explains Dean Morrell, product marketing manager for hay and forage. "Operators love the quiet, comfortable cab, the smooth ride of our GlideRider™ rear-axle suspension system, and the responsive steering from our electro-hydraulic steering control system."

AGCOThe WR9800 Series windrowers are powered by reliable AGCO POWER™ diesel engines, led by the AP66-4F, a 6.6-liter engine in the WR9870. This model is ideal for Hesston's disc header, and offers 225 horsepower and the muscle to operate in heavy crop conditions like winter forage, wet silage hay, and hilly or rough terrain. The WR9860 is designed to perform toe-to-toe with any six-cylinder windrower with its AP49-4F, a 4.9L four-cylinder QuadBoost™ engine that boasts 195 HP, also an increase over the previous model. This additional power provides a higher cutting speed of 17 mph, plus a maximum road speed of 22 mph for quicker moves between fields.

Improved ergonomic control handle
A redesigned control handle is a significant addition to the WR9800 Series. With a more ergonomic shape that easily fits the operator's hand, the new poly handle has nine user-configured, programmable control buttons and two standard buttons, putting all machine and header functions in one location. Operators can set the machine's control functions to their own needs and preferences, including new control features such as load control and power shift.

Additional conveniences for the operator include a larger platform, for easier entry into the cab and more room to stand on when fueling the machine. A new step for the ladder offers more windrow clearance, and a new location for the air filter provides handy stand-up servicing and more room to do so. Finally, the oil tank gauge, DEF tank and toolbox have been moved to more convenient locations - finishing touches that are typical of the attention to detail found in Hesston hay equipment.

"When Hesston introduced the WR9700 Series, it was the first manufacturer in the industry to develop a machine that operates all hydraulic, engine and drive functions via an onboard computer terminal," says Morrell. "We're very proud that the WR windrowers have seen such success in allowing hay producers to develop quality hay faster and more efficiently with an enhanced level of precision."

The WR9800 Series' electro-hydraulic steering system provides enhanced steering precision with quicker response time. This means the windrowers are easier to drive, with a faster 17-mph cutting and road speeds up to 22 mph without compromising steering control and stability. Operator fatigue is reduced as the force needed to move the steering wheel is lessened.

Other popular features
The WR9800 Series windrowers also include leading features that make the WR Series the most popular windrowers on the market. They include the proprietary V-Cool™ cooling system, which positions the radiator and all cooling units for the air conditioner, hydraulic systems and air-to-air intercooler in a V shape below a hydraulically driven, variable-speed fan. This allows cool, fresh air to be drawn directly into the radiator without bringing in warmer air from another radiator. The V-Cool system contains a self-cleaning "purge" cycle that reverses the fan, providing a blast of air to clear the air intake of chaff and debris to maintain optimal engine temperature and significantly reduce maintenance.
