Dairy QualityDairy Quality Inc™, a farm innovation company, is about to blow the barn doors off the way milk quality testing is done. With only an iPhone™ and a specialized adaptor kit called Milk Guardian™, Dairy Quality Inc. takes mobile computing to an unbelievable place –the milking parlor.

All dairy farmers know the importance of testing the health quality of their milk. Not only are there government standards to meet, but high quality means a better product offered to producers and the consumer. It's also worth more. The cleaner the milk, the better the price offered by producers.

But the testing process can be difficult. Samples have to be taken from each cow on a regular basis and sent off to a lab for checking. The cost per test is high and the time it takes to get a result back from the lab takes far too long for most in the business.

The remarkable new device form Dairy Quality Inc. will change all this. Somatic cell count testing, the main indicator of infection can now be done right at the side of the cow while milking. Results are delivered to the palm of the dairy farmer's hand in seconds instead of weeks of waiting to hear back from the lab. And the cost of each test is a fraction of what it is today, lowering end-to-end production costs.

This instant results also means that a sick cow can be removed from production right away, instead of waiting to find out if action is needed. This means that each batch sold to the producers will be cleaner than it is today, yielding higher prices.

The timing for the introduction of the new technology couldn't be better. New health standards for milk from North American farms, almost twice as stringent as it was in some regions, are now in place, The acceptable somatic cell count in most of North America is now down to 400,000 cells/mL. Dairy farmers not meeting these new standards will be penalized, so more rigorous testing is now needed. Milk Guardian will play an important part in helping meet the new rules.

To make it all work, Dairy Quality Inc. is teaming up with app developer mpengo.Ltd which specialized in cutting edge mobile computing. Milk Guardian will run using mpengo Ltd.'s "mpengo Dairy" app on any iPhone.
