David HughesDur-A-Flex has named David Hughes vice president of Marketing, Research & Development effective Oct. 24, 2011. Hughes is a former business director of BASF Corporation and a Business Line vice president for Ciba Specialty Chemicals.

Dur-A-Flex's president and chief operating officer Peter V. Ferris said, "Dur-A-Flex looks forward to David bringing his market-driven innovation experience and continuing our focus on key markets and end users as trends continue to change, creating new opportunities for us."

Hughes said, "I am truly excited to be a part of driving Dur-A-Flex's success forward. The areas of Marketing, Research & Development are key to propelling our defined strategies forward and delivering products globally that make a difference in the wide array of industries that we serve."

In his new role, Hughes will direct Research & Development with a focus on new innovative applications and product rollouts. He will also oversee Dur-A-Flex's Marketing efforts, which include the tradeshow channel, lead generation program and product management.

While at BASF, Hughes' role as business director included overseeing Marketing, Sales, Business Development and Technical Service. He also served over 12 years with Ciba in various roles from business vice president, Procurement, New Business Development, Sales and Supply Chain in a variety of businesses focused on the Coatings and related markets.

A resident of Fairfield, Conn., Hughes earned a bachelor of science degree in Chemical Engineering from Bath University, Bath, England and has pursued many additional educational opportunities such as E-business in B2B, and Financial accounting in the chemicals business.
