Pfizer supplies veterinarians with antibiotics to support recovery efforts   MADISON, N.J. - July 6, 2011 - Pfizer Animal Health helped three sick pilot whales that were stranded in the Florida Keys in May by providing antibiotics to the veterinarians treating them.   "We received a request for injectable antibiotics after the whales were found to have infections from being stranded," said Christina Dougherty, VMD, Veterinary Medical Information and Product Support Manager for Pfizer Animal Health.  "As veterinarians, our mission is to help animals, no matter what the shape or size. It felt great to be able to provide a product for animals that desperately needed it."   The antibiotics were used to treat severe pneumonia, which developed as a result of the stranding.   Rehabilitation efforts continue at the Marine Mammal Conservancy rehabilitation center in Key Largo, FL.   "Without these drugs, the whales were at risk of dying from severe lung infection," said Micah Brodsky, VMD, the veterinarian at the Marine Mammal Conservancy who requested the antibiotics. "Pfizer's effort to get the antibiotics to us quickly was critical to saving the whales' lives."   Over the past year, Pfizer Animal Health has donated more than $90,000 in products to help veterinarians treat animals in need through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).   The AZA donation is a component of Pfizer Animal Health's Commitment to Veterinarians™ platform-which offers support through training and education, research and development, investing in the future of the veterinary profession, and philanthropy.       Learn more about Commitment to Veterinarians™ ·         Web: vets.pfizerah.com ·         Twitter: @Commitment2Vets ·         Facebook: facebook.com/pfizeranimalhealth   Pfizer Inc: Working together for a healthier world™ At Pfizer, we apply science and our global resources to improve health and well-being at every stage of life.  We strive to set the standard for quality, safety and value in the discovery, development and manufacturing of medicines for people and animals.  Our diversified global health care portfolio includes human and animal biologic and small molecule medicines and vaccines, as well as nutritional products and many of the world's best-known consumer products.
