Red and White Dairy Cattle AssociationThe Red and White Dairy Cattle Association is excited to announce that their 2014 summer internship position was awarded to Michaela Ash of Upton, Kentucky. During the course of the summer, Michaela's responisbilities will include assisting with publications, helping at the 50th National Red and White Convention and representing the RWDCA at various events.

Michaela was not raised on a family farm, but found her passion in the dairy industry about four years ago. Her high school agriculture teacher, Amy Olt, encouraged her to pursue dairy judging in 4H and FFA, where she did most of her practicing at Olt's place, Rocky Run Farms. After a year of judging and practicing she asked Amy if she was able to attend a few shows with her and soon figured out that she was ready to start showing herself. The first cow that she bought in 2011 was a Red and White junior yearling Holstein that has had her heart from day one. She has bred and bought cows to start her own small herd, where her and her cows have been accepted as "part of the family" at Rocky Run Farms of Kentucky and River Bend Dairy of Tennessee for the past three years. She has actively milked and cared for show animals at these farms for the past three years.

Michaela is currently enrolled as a junior at Western Kentucky University where she is double majoring in General Agriculture and Communication Studies with a minor in Sales. She hopes to start graduate classes in the future and receive an M.A. in Organizational Communication. Her future career goals are to continue working in the dairy industry and be highly involved with promoting the Red and White breed. We are excited to be working with Michaela during the upcoming summer months!
