Alltech launched a new app at the 27th Annual International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium in Lexington, Ky., this week. The free app is designed to help those in agribusiness become more efficient in the day to day operations of their business. With three features - weather, commodity prices, and pig issues - the app is the first of its kind in the animal health industry.

"After listening to the marketplace, we realized this was something that is sorely needed," said Billy Frey, digital marketing manager at Alltech. "Alltech's number one goal is to help farmers and feed mills become more efficient, and therefore more profitable. This app is part of our new digital marketing plan that will provide information to those in agriculture in a real time format."

The app is available for iPhone and Android phones. It can be found in the App Store or in the Android marketplace under the name "Alltech." While currently focused on pig production, the app will be expanded into all species of livestock and poultry.

Alltech's 2011 International Symposium is intended to be an industry time-out, providing opportunities for professionals to huddle in specialized breakout sessions – including aquaculture, beef, dairy, equine, poultry, pig production, pet food, regulatory, food quality, traceability, and communication in agriculture. All sessions are dedicated to the open discussion of creative game-changing strategies for revolutionizing industry practices and thus redefining its future.

New to the Alltech Symposium this year was the incorporation of several new technologies, such as a Twitter feed wall displaying tweets that contain #alltechsymposium. The opening plenary session was also streamed live on Alltech's homepage. Live video streaming will continue on Tuesday, May 24 beginning at 1:30 p.m. EST, via Alltech's Symposium Web site, also accessible by mobile phones.
