More than $3.6 million donated nationally through the program since 2008

Pfizer logoOwner and business manager Steve Pedersen of Northern Lakes Veterinary Supply from Abbotsford, Wis., partnered with Pfizer Animal Health to contribute $5,274 to two area FFA chapters. The donations offer added support and resources for the students. Since several Northern Lakes employees are former FFA members themselves, supporting youth in agriculture is an important cause.

"The future of our business is the farm, and it is important for us to support the youth in FFA," Pedersen says. "Currently, many school systems have budget concerns, so we are happy to team up and add value to our local chapters."

This is the third year Northern Lakes participated in the Pfizer Animal Health FFA Support Program in which participating veterinarians and retail partners were able to direct the funds from a portion of their purchases of select Pfizer Animal Health cattle products to any local FFA chapter(s) or the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) Foundation – Pfizer Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship Fund. Since its inception in 2008, the total amount donated through the FFA/AABP Foundation Support Program nationwide has been more than $3.6 million.

After hitting a 2011 membership goal of more than 100 students, Colby FFA in Colby, Wis., was appreciative of the donation. Funds are being used to send students to the state convention and to area leadership conferences. Advisers hope that the conferences will aid students' leadership and social skills to better prepare them for college and a successful future in agriculture.

"The donation will help us build more of our members and really support them rather than just offering added benefits to our officers," says Melissa Ploeckelman, Colby High School agriculture instructor and Colby FFA adviser. "We will be able to help all of our members and allow more of our members to really see how many agricultural careers there are for them."
