A mechanically ventilated barn utilizes fans to bring in fresh air while removing moisture, dust and gases. In hot weather, fans also remove excess animal heat. A well-ventilated barn is a more comfortable and productive environment for both cows and people.

We visited J&D Manufacturing in Eau Claire, Wis., to see the fan production process. The article, "How a barn fan is made," appeared on the Young Dairyman page of the May 25, 2015, issue on page 384.
