The Missouri Dairy Association (MDA) opposes any attempts by the House of Representatives to extend a version of the current Farm Bill by one year. In a statement delivered today to Missouri's congressional delegation, MDA said:

"Missouri's dairy farmers need a new Farm Bill that will allow them the ability to make sound business decisions for the next five years," says Larry Purdom, MDA president and a dairy farmer from Purdy.

"In addition, the disaster provisions contained in the Farm Bill, approved by the House Agriculture Committee, are needed now because of the severe drought that has drained our state.

"An extension of current law fails to provide the needed level of certainty.

"MDA has supported the Dairy Security Act (DSA) in the Farm Bill (HR 6083 and S 3240) as approved by the House Agriculture Committee and the Senate.

"It is important to get to conference and pass a bill before the current law expires September 30. Continuing outdated dairy policies will negatively impact our business, the federal budget, consumers and the economy," concludes Purdom.
