The biographical sketches to follow are written to introduce you to the modern-day leadership of Hoard's Dairyman.
Steven A. Larson
Managing Editor
Since 1969, Larson has been with Hoard’s Dairyman, first serving as associate editor before being named managing editor in 1998. During his time with the magazine, he has been invited to make presentations in 29 states, three Canadian provinces, and Mexico.
His duties include preparing editorial commentary and Washington news. Larson is responsible for the magazine’s coverage of milk marketing and dairy policy, dairy product promotion, feeding and nutrition, and mastitis and herd health. He has campaigned vigorously for a strong, dairy-farmer-funded product promotion and research effort, as well as supported national, voluntary, industry-controlled programs to improve incomes of U.S. dairy farm families.
Larson has served on advisory committees for the National Dairy Leaders Conference, Western Dairy Management Conference, the U.S. Forage Research Center, USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, and is a former director and past president of National Dairy Shrine.
Larson holds degrees from Kansas State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Corey A. Geiger
Associate Editor
Geiger joined the Hoard’s Dairyman staff in 1995. As associate editor, he has traveled to dairy farms or attended meetings in 43 states while covering the dairy industry. He’s also traveled to Canada, Mexico, and New Zealand and has given presentations in seven states and two foreign countries.
Geiger was instrumental in launching the first Hoard’s Dairyman website and oversees several areas of coverage in the magazine including: reproduction and genetics; business and financial planning, and production costs. He also coordinates the magazine’s popular Round Table series, annual Hoard’s Dairyman Cow Judging Contest, and cover photo selection.
Geiger serves on the Young Dairy Leaders Institute Advisory Committee, is Assistant Superintendent for the National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, serves on the executive board of directors for the National Dairy Shrine, is Secretary of the Wisconsin Holstein Association and Secretary-Treasurer of the Klussendorf Memorial Association.
He holds degrees in agricultural economics and dairy science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dennis J. Halladay
Western Editor
Western Editor Dennis Halladay has nearly 30 years' experience writing about and photographing the Western dairy industry. A Journalism graduate of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, he spent 22 years as Associate Editor and then Editor of Western Dairyman magazine.
He joined the Hoard's staff in 1999 and helped launch the Hoard's West insert which is sent out monthly to our readers in 17 Western States. Hallday is based in Riverside, Calif., and is in charge of the editorial content and layout of each issue. His major areas of dairy interest are calf raising, new facility design, and dairy statistics and trend analysis.
Halladay was a Planning Committee member for the first four Western Dairy Management Conferences and served on the Program Committee for a National Dairy Heifer Growers Association Conference.
He has won several writing and photography awards, and, was named Dairy Journalist of the Year by Mid-America Dairymen, Inc., in 1996.
Lana C. Olson
Associate Editor

Lana Olson joined Hoard’s Dairyman in May 2008 upon graduation from the University of Minnesota with a degree in animal science and a minor in applied economics.
Her areas of responsibility with the magazine include the Farm Flash page, People Side features, and Young Dairymen pages. She assists with the coverage of annual breed association meetings and also heads up the annual Hoard’s Dairyman World Dairy Expo Supplement.
Most recently, she served as president of the Gopher Dairy Club and the Minnesota Junior Holstein Association. In 2007, she was a National Distinguished Holstein Junior Member semi-finalist. Olson has interned in the University of Minnesota ag communications department and Accelerated Genetics.
