Travel Opportunities:
Annual tour of new and unique local dairy operations. There are also opportunities to attend dairy cattle research meetings. Selected undergraduate students may work at the UBC Dairy Education and Research Center to gain dairy cattle research experience and experience in operating a modern dairy production facility. Over the past 10 years students and scientists from ~35 different countries have worked on research projects at the UBC Dairy Education and Research Center during the past 10 years. The Center is therefore a rich international hub of dairy cattle education and research. In turn, many Canadian students have traveled internationally to study dairy cattle production.
Additional Information:
UBC does not have an undergraduate specialty in dairy. None of the undergraduate courses taught in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (formally Faculty of Agricultural Sciences) place an emphasis on a single species or agricultural commodity. Specialization occurs at the masters and doctoral levels.
The University has a strong internationally recognized dairy teaching research program emphasizing the training of masters and doctoral students as well as post-doctoral fellows. The University has state-of-the-art dairy teaching and research facilities at its Dairy Education and Research located off campus. Selected undergraduate students from Canada and abroad may work with graduate students and other scientists at the Centre to learn about dairy cattle research and the operation of a modern dairy production unit.
