My placing on this class of Jersey cows is B D A C. B sorts herself to the top as she excels in correctness of mammary system and soundness of feet and legs. B is much higher and wider in the rear udder than D. She also is longer and more level on the udder floor, as well as being smoother and less abrupt about the fore udder with more bloom and capacity. In addition, her thurls are more centrally placed allowing her to carry her legs more correctly beneath the rump structure. I do admit that D is more youthful in her udder.
It is the youthfulness of udder that allows D to place over A in a close placing. D is higher in the rear udder attachment and stronger in her median suspensory ligament which allows her to carry her udder higher above the hock. Furthermore, she shows less set to the hock from the side. However, A does have a definite advantage over D in bloom of udder and also shows more depth and sweep to her rib, being the best dairy framed cow in the class.
It is that tremendous advantage in dairyness that handily places A over C in my bottom pair. A is much longer from end to end, leaner and more feminine in the head and neck, thinner more incurving about her thigh, and flatter and cleaner about her bone. She is also more desirable in her front teat size and shape. I do grant C is stronger and more smoothly made through her front end than A but lacks the dairyness and soundness of udder to place any higher in the class.
