Marin Western was recently selected as the Vita Plus dairy nutrition and management fellowship student at Michigan State University. Western will spend three semesters and a summer earning her master’s degree while simultaneously gaining experience in dairy nutrition and management consulting. Vita Plus will fund the credits throughout the duration of the experience in return for the research and project support she will provide.

Western is completing her undergraduate degree in animal science and agribusiness management at Michigan State University. She received extensive research experience through her work in the dairy cattle nutrition lab at MSU and a Vita Plus internship. Her past research focused on rumen analysis of dairy cows, specifically fatty acids, and critical analysis of bacteria and various spoilage agents in forages. Recently, Western took first place at the 2017 Tri-State Nutrition Conference in the undergraduate original research category and she will continue to provide this level of scientific-based advice and research to help dairy producers implement strategies to achieve their production goals.
