Merck Animal Health is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Cox, M.S., D.V.M., Ruminant Technical Services Manager, has been named president of the Dairy Cattle Welfare Council (DCWC). Established in 2015 to promote dairy cattle welfare, the DCWC works to unite the broad array of dairy community constituents to develop best practices for animal well-being, management, husbandry, animal-human interaction, health and productivity.
“As a veterinarian, I always say that I work for the cattle, and this new role as DCWC president will enable me to promote the advancement of dairy cattle welfare through a rather new, impactful platform,” Dr. Cox said. “I look forward to leading this organization to bring together key members of the dairy community – from producers to academicians – who can share their diverse perspectives to help to ensure meaningful progress at a time when building consumer trust in dairy products is imperative.”

Dr. Cox is serving a three-year term with the DCWC. She earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California-Davis, and a master’s degree in biology and bachelor’s degree in animal physiology and neuroscience from the University of California-San Diego. Dr. Cox, who specializes in thoracic ultrasonography of calves and microbiology diagnostics for milk quality, is past president of the Academy of Dairy Veterinary Consultants and serves on the American Association of Bovine Practitioners Animal Welfare Committee.
