Select Sires Inc. has hired Sara Kitchen as communications specialist. In this role, she will manage the writing and production of Select Sires’ customer newsletter, Selections; coordinate all press releases; and work closely with the sales and marketing team to promote Select Sires’ many programs and services. Kitchen, a native of Pennsylvania, will join the corporate communications team on November 15.

“Sara’s experiences and specialized talents make her a valuable addition to the corporate communications team. Her passion and commitment to customer success aligns with our mission as a customer-owned cooperative. We are excited to welcome her as a member of our team,” stated Shirley Kaltenbach, director of communications for Select Sires.

Kitchen join’s Select Sires’ corporate team with a wealth of experience. She spent two years as communications specialist for Select Sire Power where she coordinated internal and external communications efforts. She is a 2015 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and a minor in Agricultural Communications. During her time at the university, she was an active member of the Penn State Dairy Science Club and contributed and designed the 2015 club yearbook. She worked with Penn State Center for Professional Personnel Development and Center for Dairy Excellence to expand curriculum for dairy education in the Dairy Leaders of Tomorrow Program and developed and implemented social media plans to promote and encourage industry involvement in the program. She has also taken active roles in the Pennsylvania Holstein Association and Holstein USA. She currently assists with the Northeast Regional Dairy Challenge as publicity and public relation co-chair and serves on the Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge Alumni Committee.

Before joining the staff of Select Sire Power, Kitchen honed her craft with internships at Filament Marketing and the Center for Dairy Excellence. She also served as a freelance journalist for Progressive Dairyman magazine and was a member of the AgChoice Farm Credit Social Media Corps for the Northeast Regional Dairy Challenge.

“I grew up on a registered Holstein and Red & White dairy farm that used Select Sires’ genetics and took great pride in the quality of cattle that resulted from those matings. Through my communications work and interactions with member-owners at Select Sire Power, I developed a passion for Select Sires genetics, programs and services. I am extremely excited to join the communications department at Select Sires Inc. and to continue promoting the Select Sires brand,” says Kitchen.
