Spend your summer with Hoard’s Dairyman! Are you an eager, ambitious dairy students interested in writing? If so, we’d like to hear from you! For the past 36 years, the Hoard’s Dairyman internship program has provided agricultural journalism and dairy science students with an opportunity to write for a national dairy publication. Interested students do not need to be journalism majors but should show a strong interest in writing. A majority of the summer experience will be spent working directly with the Hoard’s Dairyman editors and writing content for the magazine.
The internship will be based out of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Interested students should mail a current résumé (including college address), transcript, and cover letter, along with two written letters of recommendation, to Katelyn Allen, Associate Editor, 28 Milwaukee Ave. West, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538. Materials can also be emailed to kallen@hoards.com. All application materials are due by Friday, October 25, 2024.
• The Farm Flash page — The Farm Flash page gives our intern an opportunity to be a regular contributor in each issue. When writing Farm Flashes, he or she will review Journal of Dairy Science articles and university press releases and gain experience in technical writing.
• Hoard’s Dairyman Online — Our intern works with online our communication efforts, including blogging for our HD Notebook. Also, the editorial intern may occasionally write for our e-newsletter, Hoard’s Dairyman Intel.
• The World Dairy Expo Edition — Our intern works with the editorial team to gather articles, plan layout, and edit copy for the September 10 issue of the magazine that features World Dairy Expo.
• Articles, travel, and more — During the Hoard’s Dairyman experience, interns typically spend some time traveling to meetings and dairy farms. Their goal will be writing farm stories and gathering Round Table leads, along with visiting with and documenting the story of the National Dairy Shrine’s Student Recognition winner.
