The 2014 winners of the Foremost Farms USA Agricultural Education scholarships are pursuing degrees in dairy science, herd management, veterinary medicine and agriculture education. Ten sons and daughters of members have won scholarships worth $2,000 each. Four students are already in college and six will graduate from high school this spring. Applicants for the scholarship must be pursuing an agriculture-related curriculum. The scholarship is funded by the Foremost Farms USA Charitable Foundation which raises dollars through employee fundraisers and an annual golf outing. Here are the 2014 winners:College:
Laura Crosby, Greensburg, Ind., is the daughter of Don and Myra Crosby. Laura will be a sophomore this fall at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., working toward a degree in agricultural education. She is a graduate of Waldron Jr./Sr. High School, Waldron, Ind. Laura has been involved in the Indiana Association of Agricultural Educators (IAAE). She is active on the Purdue University Agricultural Council and is a Purdue reporter. She plans to graduate from Purdue in 2017.
Danielle Hegemann, Union Grove, Wis., is the daughter of Gregory and Lisa Hegemann. Danielle will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, studying animal science with a minor in science and an emphasis in a pre-veterinary curriculum. She is a graduate of Waterford Union High School, Waterford, Wis. She is involved in the Pioneer Sportsmen's Club (trap shooting), Collegiate FFA, Dairy Club and is interested in fishing and hunting. Danielle plans to graduate from UW-Platteville in 2017.
Adam Schumm, Willshire, Ohio, is a member-owner and the son of Michael and Robin Schumm. Adam will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Northwestern Ohio, Lima, Ohio, where he is studying agriculture equipment technology. He is a graduate of Crestview Local High School in Convoy, Ohio. He is a member of the Northwestern Ohio FFA, Zion Lutheran Church member, vice chairman of the congregation, and a dartball team member. He is also a Van Wert County Farm Bureau member and a volunteer on the Wren Fire Department. Adam plans to graduate from Northwestern Ohio in 2015.
Samantha Van Deurzen, De Pere, Wis., is the daughter of Peter and Nicole Van Deurzen. She will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls studying agriculture education. Samantha is a graduate of De Pere High School, De Pere, Wis. She is a member of UW-RF Agriculture Education Society, Student United Way and her hobbies include fishing and hanging out with family and friends. She is also a member of the local Farm Bureau. Samantha plans to graduate in 2017.

Logan Voigts, Platteville, Wis., is the son of Larry and Kim Voigts. Logan plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall to study dairy science. Logan will graduate from Belmont Community Schools, Belmont, Wis., this spring where he has been involved in many school activities including football (co-captain), first team all conference defensive end and second team all conference center. He was also a basketball co-captain and in FFA, National Honor Society, Pleasant View 4-H and president of the LaFayette County Jr. Holstein Association. Logan plans to graduate from UW-Madison in 2018.
Nicole Wright, Watertown, Wis., is the daughter of Mark and Linda Wright. Nicole plans to study dairy herd management this fall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She will graduate this spring from Watertown High School, Watertown, Wis. She has received the James Crowley 4-H Dairy Leadership Award and was state winner (first in Wisconsin) of the FFA Dairy Production Proficiency Award. She is also an FFA Star Chapter Farmer. Nicole plans to graduate from UW-Madison in 2016.
Clara Bass, Reedsburg, Wis., is the daughter of Mark and Theresa Bass. Clara plans to attend Viterbo University, La Crosse, Wis., to major this fall in veterinary medicine. She will graduate this spring from Reedsburg Area High School. She is a first chair clarinet player in the high school band and competed at State Solo and Ensemble in five events. Clara volunteers at the Reedsburg Senior Life Center and likes to run. Recent honors and awards include March Rotary Student of the Month, and valedictorian of her senior class. Clara plans to graduate from Viterbo in 2018.
Leah Elsbernd, Calmar, Iowa, is the daughter of Gary and Marie Elsbernd. She plans to attend Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, this fall to study agriculture. She will graduate from South Winneshiek High School, Calmar, Iowa, and was recently named Winneshiek County Dairy Princess 2014-2015. Leah is also in National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and is involved in FFA, volleyball and trap shooting. She plans to graduate from Iowa State in 2018.
Elizabeth Sarbacker, Verona, Wis., is the daughter of Tom and Vicki Sarbacker. Elizabeth plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall to study dairy science. She will graduate from Verona Area High School this spring and is involved in National Honor Society and Saint William Catholic Church, Paoli. She lives on Fischerdale Holstein Farm and enjoys showing dairy cattle and being a member of the Dane County Dairy Judging Team. She is past president of the Paoli 4-H Fireballs and is currently vice president of the Dane County Jr. Holstein Association and president of the Verona FFA chapter. She plans to graduate from UW-Madison in 2018.
Carrie Urbanek, Cashton, Wis., is the daughter of Dale and Cheryl Urbanek. Carrie plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, River Falls, Wis., to study agricultural education. Carrie will graduate from Cashton High School, Cashton, Wis., and has been involved in FFA. She is a member of the state and national FFA Band. She is also active in 4-H, National Honor Society, band, and the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. She plans to graduate from UW-River Falls in 2018.
