Pennsylvania Dairies Round Out Top Five Herdsmanship Awards

Doug and Mike Wolfe of Ovaltop Holsteins of Richfield Springs, N.Y., received the Charles Itle Exhibition and Display Award Wednesday, Sept. 17, during the 2014 All-American Dairy Show at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.

"Our pack is kept the same here as we keep our barn at home," said Wolf. "Our dairy is what we do – we take pride in it."

The herdsmanship awards recognize those who best promote the family business. Beyond the cleanliness and attractiveness of the display, judges evaluate the presentation of and proper identification of the farm's animals. As important in judging is the exhibitors' spirit of cooperation and friendliness toward other exhibitors.

Ovaltop Holsteins received an embroidered jacket, the second place farm received a hand-painted lamp, third place received a hand-painted crock and fourth and fifth places received hand-painted pie dishes. All five farms received cash prizes, and have the opportunity to request their stall space for next year's show.

Prizes were sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association.

Second through fifth place winners were:
2nd – Dunn's Pride Holsteins, owned by the James Dunn family of New Ringgold, Schuylkill Co.
3rd – Xanadu Jerseys, owned by the Tom Colpetzer family of Greensburg, Mercer Co.
4th – RustyK View Dairy, owned by the Robert and Kerri Weber family of Mohrsville, Cumberland County
5th – Hidden Valley Ayrshires, owned by the Royston Coale family of Newville, Cumberland County
