Wirt Named Select Sires' Veterinary Intern



Select Sires logoAbigail Wirt of Lewiston, Minn., is currently serving as a veterinary intern for Select Sires Inc. During her time at Select Sires she shadows the staff veterinarians.

Wirt is studying at the University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine in Saint Paul, Minn. She graduated from South Dakota State University with a dual degree in dairy production and biology. Wirt grew up on her family's Holstein dairy farm, Wirtland Holsteins in Lewiston, Minn.

Abigail WirtShe has had a vast number of experiences where she has enhanced her skillset by serving as a research assistant and observing veterinarians. In 2009, she interned with Land O' Lakes Inc. as a dairy production specialist intern. While enrolled at South Dakota State University, she was a member of the Platinum earning 2010 National Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge team, dairy cattle judging team, dairy products judging team and dairy club. Wirt is currently a member of the University of Minnesota's Student Chapter of American Veterinarian Medical Association, Production Animal Medicine Club, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, American Association of Swine Veterinarians, Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association and Christian Veterinary Fellowship. She obtained her American FFA degree and was a recipient of the National DHIA scholarship, National Dairy Promotions and Research Board scholarship and James H. Looper Jr. Memorial Scholarship.
