Each year, top notch cattle are put up for auction at World Dairy Expo. Animals are paraded throughout the Sale Pavilion, or more recently, The Tanbark, with hopes of bringing high prices based upon their genetics. The World Classic may arguably be the most anticipated sale of Expo and concludes the end of the sale week.
On Thursday, Holstein enthusiasts gathered with hopes of purchasing top-of-the-line cattle at the annual sale. This year’s top seller, which was an IVF session with OCD Sheepster 23614, had a pricetag of $205,000 and was bought by Semex of Guelph, Ontario, and consigned by Oakfield Corners Dairy of Oakfield, N.Y. The heifer is the number one GTPI heifer in the Holstein breed. Winstar Sheepster 1004-ET followed as the second high seller, bringing $90,000. She was purchased by Peak Genetics of Madison, Wis., and consigned by Winstar Genetics LLC., of Shelley, Idaho. Fifty-five lots in the World Classic averaged $30,245.
The World Ayrshire Event Sale started off the sale week, with Four-Hills Burdette Victory-ET selling at a top price of $10,500 in the Sale Pavilion. Old-N-Lazy Wicked Perty-ET brought the second highest price, selling at $7,500. There was a total of 26 lots.
Following the Ayrshire sale, Jerseys had the chance to take to The Tanbark on Tuesday, with 28 total lots to be sold. The top seller of this sale was Ms-Vip Viva La Bos, bringing $3,500. Following in close second and selling for $2,900 was JX Pine-Tree 13947 Cha 1219-ET. The cattle alone brought a sale average of $1,858.33 per lot, with IVF sessions, semen, and embryos also sold.
The World Premier Brown Swiss Sale always proves to be one of the higher energy sales, taking place on Wednesday this year in the Sale Pavilion. There were 44 lots sold, with the top seller Port-Haven Sega Sabres Harmoni coming with a price tag of $10,500. The second highest seller was Kruses Foremost Jitty-ETV, bringing $9,600.
