At the 2015 American Association of Bovine Practitioners Annual Conference, the $5,000 Dr. Bruce Wren CE award was given to a dairy practitioner

AgriLabsAgriLabs presented the AgriLabs Dr. Bruce Wren Continuing Education Award for $5,000 at the 2015 American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) Annual conference in New Orleans, La., Sept. 17-19.

These annual awards honor Bruce Wren, DVM, PhD, a long-time AgriLabs technical services veterinarian, in recognition of his lifelong commitment to practical and formal continuing education for veterinarians. A $5,000 continuing education grant is given to one dairy veterinarian and one beef veterinarian who are involved in a veterinary practice and have graduated veterinary school within the last 10 years. Each grant makes possible professional continuing education proposed by the applicant.

The 2015 dairy recipient is Dr. Gabe Middleton, Orrville, Ohio.

"AgriLabs believes these awards will facilitate Dr. Wren's efforts to encourage veterinarians to identify and participate in professional development opportunities to better them as a professional and practitioner," remarked Steve Schram, AgriLabs President and Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Middleton works in an eight-veterinarian practice serving approximately 8,000 dairy cattle in the Orrville, Ohio area. Currently, Middleton is pursuing a three-year Dairy Health and Management Certificate through The Ohio State University which prepares him to take and pass the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners-board exam. This continued education in highly used technologies such as ultrasound and ventilation systems are key in expanding his practice on more than just reproduction.

"It's an honor to assist Dr. Middleton in his continued educational goals that will help him better serve his clients and the industry," said Schram.

Aside from being a young practitioner, applicants must specifically outline the type of continuing education they are seeking, its approximate costs, and the benefits it will provide to the applicant, his/her practice and the practice's clients. The selection process is undertaken by an awards committee from AABP. For more information, visit www.aabp.org.
