The Composite Dairy Cattle Registry of Butler, Missouri is open to all dairy cattle breeders and producers that have a need for registering their animals to identify, track, document and maintain the ancestry of past generations and future offspring.
The Composite Dairy Cattle Registry offers an affordable and efficient system to register cattle of any breed or combination of breeds.
A benefit of the Registry is cattle that do not qualify for registration in a registry - due to percentage of breed or the breed crosses, - can be registered. The Composite Dairy Cattle Registry has also been designated the official breed registrar for the Milking Fleckvieh for North America (USA and Canada).
The Composite Dairy Cattle Registry has also been approved for providing export certification for dairy cattle being exported overseas.
Composite cattle are still new to many producers, and as with anything new, it takes time before there is wide spread acceptance. Marketing composite cattle, or any breed of cattle, present real challenges for producers both big and small, but this can also lead to some real opportunities.
Among the comments that we are hearing is - "To be honest, I am pleased to see a Composite herd book being established. It is a way to document these cattle which has not been available before. Whether you like composites or not, they are a factor in our industry that is not going to go away anytime soon."
Breeders who raise Holstein, Jersey, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire have name recognition because commercial cattlemen are aware of these breeds. This is not the case when it comes to Composites. While some of the breed associations are making changes to register their breed mixed with other breed genetics, there are still many Composite crosses developed by breeders or groups of breeders, that with these breed crosses there is no registry that will accept these cattle.
The technology to provide documentation and genetic evaluations of Composite dairy cattle is available, and breeders can join together through the Composite Dairy Cattle Registry. We will help producers - seedstock and commercial - have a better understanding of composite cattle and a source for more information along with genetic evaluations and pedigree information on their cattle.
