Mark Dayton, Kathy Skiba

Governor Mark Dayton joined Midwest Dairy Council in recognizing Minnesota dairy farmers and celebrating National Dairy Council's 100th anniversary during an event Wednesday, June 24.

Governor Dayton, Minnesota dairy farmer Kathy Skiba and representatives from Midwest Dairy Council recognized the commitment of the state's dairy farmers to the health and wellness of all Americans. The Governor also led a ceremonial "milk toast" to commemorate the occasion and issued a proclamation to honor June Dairy Month and National Dairy Council's centennial year.

"In recognition of the National Dairy Council's 100th anniversary, it is especially important to honor dairy producers whose daily work and dedication contributes so much to the health and prosperity of Minnesotans and Americans alike," Governor Dayton said as part of his proclamation.

Since its founding in 1915, National Dairy Council has helped people live healthier lives by communicating the nutrient-rich value of dairy foods like milk, cheese and yogurt in an overall balanced diet. Guided by science, National Dairy Council brings to life a shared vision for a healthy, happy and sustainable world and a dedication to healthy products, healthy people, healthy communities and a healthier planet – now and for future generations.

"We are proud of our dairy farming heritage and grateful to Governor Dayton for recognizing the importance of our industry to the entire state," said Skiba of Diamond S Farm in North Branch. "Dairy farms like ours are typically passed down from generation to generation, and we look forward to continuing the legacy of bringing nutritious dairy products to market and supporting the collective health and wellbeing of Minnesotans and all Americans for the next century."
