The Dairy Business Association of Wisconsin has hired a news media veteran as its new director of public relations.
Jamie Mara joins the organization after working for 22 years in various roles in the news business, most recently as interim executive editor for Post-Crescent Media, based in Appleton, Wis.
DBA Executive Director Tim Trotter said the growing association sought out an experienced communications professional for the newly created role. Mara's nonagricultural background will be an added benefit, he said.
"Jamie's communication expertise will serve us well as will his fresh perspective of the industry," Trotter said. "The dairy industry has a wonderful story to tell and Jamie will lead the charge in helping us tell it."
Mara has been a lifelong resident of the state. He grew up in Prairie du Chien, Wis., and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He lives in Little Chute, Wis., with his wife and two teenage sons.
"I love this state and am extremely proud of its cutting-edge innovation, unparalleled work ethic and fierce commitment to natural resources," Mara said. "The dairy industry embodies all of those things."
"I can't imagine representing something that is more purely Wisconsin," he said.
Trotter said the DBA, which represents all facets of the dairy industry, is looking to expand on its success in providing resources for members.
"Our goal is to help ensure that Wisconsin's dairy community as a whole continues to thrive," he said.
