New tool to make bull selection easier called ProCROSS Ranking (PCR) introduced
Dairy crossbreeders have been searching for a tool to help them select bulls for their crossbreeding program. It is known that hybrid vigor can bring up to 10% increase for certain traits. To sharpen bull choices and make an even easier crossbreeding system, ProCROSS and its partners have developed ProCROSS Ranking (PCR). This new and user-friendly tool answers crossbreeder needs by putting greater emphasis on their crossbreeding goals as well as bringing uniformity within the bull choices across the VikingRed and Montbeliarde breeds. ProCROSS has developed 2 ProCROSS Rankings adjusted to specific milk payment policies:
1. PCR Solids: searching for an average-sized cow with good body condition able to produce efficiently high quantities of protein and fat, requiring less labor and treatment, achieving a larger lifetime production.
2. PCR Liquid: searching for an average-sized cow with good body condition able to produce efficiently high volume of milk, requiring less labor and treatment, achieving a larger lifetime production.

The ProCROSS Ranking (PCR) was released with August 2015 proofs and will be updated at each proof run for all sires used in the ProCROSS concept from Coopex Montbeliarde and Viking Genetics (VikingRed). Expressed under the same format, the ProCROSS Ranking lists result in a re-ranking from ISU for Montbeliarde and NTM lists for VikingRed. Breeding programs followed by Coopex Montbeliarde (Umotest) and Viking Genetics (VikingRed) remain unchanged as their Total Index (ISU and NTM) answer best to pure breeding goals in their local economic situations.
