Expanded Partnership Brings Mentoring, Insight to Dairy Profit Team Farms

The Center for Dairy Excellence has announced a strengthened partnership with the Lancaster and Lebanon Chapter of SCORE to serve as a resource to dairy farms in this region of Pennsylvania. Through this partnership, SCORE and the center have agreed to expand mentoring and consulting in 2016 to dairy farms focusing on profitability, transitional, and business planning.

The mission of SCORE is connecting entrepreneurs with mentors to help build local small businesses. The Lancaster SCORE chapter was recognized with the 2013 Outstanding SCORE chapter by SCORE USA.

The center has been working with SCORE since 2009, with members of SCORE working with individual farms enrolled in the center's On-Farm Dairy Resource Team Programs. Since then, SCORE has become a valued partner to the center, bringing unique expertise to dairy farm businesses.

"As dairy farms become increasingly complex businesses, SCORE has the potential to add a unique perspective to dairy farm advisory teams," said John Frey, executive director of the Center for Dairy Excellence. "We are very pleased to make this resource available."

"Our experience working with dairy farms through the center has been very positive," said Hugh Macmaster, former district director from SCORE. "All of our SCORE mentors have extensive leadership experience in successful companies, and we look forward to working with dairy families as the center directs."

"I appreciate the professional business approach and have seen very positive results," said Kim Horning, dairy specialist with Purina Animal Nutrition.
