Late summer and early fall weather hit many parts of Wisconsin hard with heavy rains, storm damage and flooding.

Potential crop losses may prove stressful to cash grain farmers as they struggle to meet commitments, and for livestock farmers who require large amounts of quality feed and forage. Urban residents may wonder what to do about flooded vegetable gardens, water-soaked lawns and damaged trees. Everyone is concerned about water-logged basements and access to clean drinking water.

While University of Wisconsin-Extension can’t control the weather, there are choices to be made in aftermath of these weather events. Answers to many of these questions, as well as personal financial management tools, can be found online at University of Wisconsin-Extension’s Disaster Education website: https://fyi.uwex.edu/agemergency/.

“Through the coordinated efforts of our county-based educators and campus-based specialists UW-Extension is able to assist with local needs,” said Cheryl Skjolaas, Extension Agricultural Safety Specialist at UW-Madison.
