John Shutske AgSource Cooperative Services is pleased to announce John Shutske's appointment to the Board of Directors. His term as an ex officio member begins in August of 2011.

Shutske is currently the Associate Dean for Extension and Outreach in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) at the University of Wisconsin. In this position, he oversees educational programs and research activities across the state of Wisconsin. Shutske is also a Professor in the CALS Department of Biological Systems Engineering and has an affiliate faculty appointment in the school of Medicine and Public Health's Department of Family Medicine.

"AgSource's connection with UW-Madison CALS and UW Cooperative Extension are as important today as they have ever been. The AgSource Board's appointment of John is recognition of that. Additionally, his extensive background in emerging areas of importance in agriculture and the AgSource business will be a major asset to our cooperative," notes AgSource Chief Operating Officer, Pete Giacomini.

Before moving to Wisconsin, Shutske spent nearly 20 years as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering. His research there focused on the issues of risk control, safety, and public health within the agricultural and food industries.

Shutske's years of experience and strong understanding of agriculture took root in his youth. He grew up on a 750 acre corn and soybean operation in Indiana and graduated from Purdue University in 1983. He continued in academics and received a masters and PhD from Purdue in 1984 and 1988 respectively.
