The Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America (ASHCA) proudly presents the Agricultural Safety Health and Risk Management Certificate Program (AgSHARP®) on August 13-14, 2024, in DeForest, Wisconsin. The program will include cooperation with the UW’s Agricultural Safety and Health program, led by John Shutske in the University’s Biological Systems Engineering Department.
This immersive, two-day course is designed to elevate the expertise of professionals dedicated to agricultural safety management. The certificate program will provide a comprehensive, interactive curriculum that includes case studies, exercises, and engaging class activities. A farm visit is tentatively scheduled. It is specifically tailored for a diverse audience, including farm safety and human resource managers, health professionals, insurance loss control and workers' compensation staff, research farm safety directors, and other agricultural production and agribusiness staff.
Shutske says, “While the program will feature several dairy-related issues, much of the content will apply to other segments of Wisconsin agriculture, including other livestock, specialty crops, field crop and feed production, and related agri-service businesses. We will focus on the changing nature of the industry, worker needs, and how safety is connected to workforce engagement, retention, and positive relationships.” Speakers come from various fields, including insurance professionals and Extension safety leaders.
