Up to $10,000 in Prizes to Be Awarded at Pennsylvania Dairy Summit



The deadline to submit entries into the Second Annual Pennsylvania Forage Analysis Competition has been extended to Monday, January 5. Pennsylvania dairy producers and crop growers are encouraged to enter their forage samples in one or more of six category classes, with the top prize in each category being $1,000. The cost to enter is $20 per sample, with a complete forage analysis made available for each entry.

Entries of forage samples should be submitted online through www.padairysummit.org. Click on "Program," then on "Forage Analysis Competition" to access the online entry form. The completed entry form should be printed and enclosed with one full gallon sample of forage, mailed to Cumberland Valley Analytical Services, 14515 Industry Dr, Hagerstown, MD 21742. The cost per sample entry is $20. All samples must be received at CVAS by no later than Thursday, January 8.

The six category classes include:

  • Traditional Corn Silage (non-BMR)
  • Brown Midrib
  • Corn Silage
  • Perennial Legume Haylage
  • Grass Haylage and Small Grain Forage
  • Forage Sorghum
  • Baleage (includes legume & mixed perennials)


Prizes will be awarded for 1st ($1,000), 2nd ($500) and 3rd ($250) in each of the six categories. The winners will be announced on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Pennsylvania Dairy Summit, with finalists from each category on display during the two-day Dairy Summit, being held on Feb. 4 – 5 at the Lancaster Marriott in downtown Lancaster, Pa.
