Gettysburg, Adams Co., native Lauren Nell, 21, won the Senior Fitting and Showmanship Contest on Sunday, Sept. 14, at the 2014 All-American Dairy Show at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.
"This was a great way to go out'," said Nell. "This was my last year and third time doing the fit-all." Nell has earned seventh and third place in previous years' competitions.
This year's contest featured 416 junior exhibitors, ages eight to 21, representing 13 states. In the senior division, 119 exhibitors competed for the title of Master Showman. After three rounds of competition, 10 finalists earned the opportunity to showcase their skills in an hour-long fitting contest.
In the event, Max Wolf, 21, of Lebanon, Conn. was recognized as the top overall fitter.
Champion Senior received a $250 cash award courtesy of Centre-Clinton Holstein Association while Top Senior Showman received a $50 cash award donated by Rip-N-Good Kids. Top Senior Fitter received $50.00 cash award courtesy of Penn Gate Farm, Steve, Chris and Corbin Wood.
Cameron Davis of Union Bridge, Md., was the senior division showmanship judge, and Dr. Jenny Miller, Hagerstown, Md., judged the fitting portion of the competition.
"It was a great competition for juniors to showcase their overall skills, not just showing but fitting talents as well." said Dr. Miller.
