Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a $310,419 grant for the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) based out of Spring Valley, WI - for their project which assists beginning farmers in better understanding basic farm financial management. This funding comes from the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program which is focused on addressing the difficulties that new agricultural entrepreneurs face.
"I'm proud to see MOSES receive this funding so that they can continue to encourage and enhance opportunities for a new generation of Wisconsinites to take up farming and keep our rural communities thriving," Rep. Kind stated. "The work being done by MOSES through funding by the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program will ensure that our long tradition of farming in Wisconsin is carried forward by young farmers and that agriculture remains a vital economic driver in the state." According to a 2014 report by the University of Wisconsin-Extension, farming and agricultural businesses contribute more than $88.3 billion in economic activity in Wisconsin and support 413,500 jobs across the state.
