The 2018 Illinois Dairy Summit, co-sponsored by University of Illinois Extension and Illinois Milk Producers’ Association, is Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, 2018. This year’s theme, “Strategies with Unfavorable Milk Prices,” features dairy management information with helpful ideas on how to improve profitability in tough times. Topics include feeding economically, strategies to improve corn silage quality, current research in the dairy industry, and controlling milk value. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the first speaker at 10 a.m.
Speakers include a local dairy producer, along with Professor Emeritus Mike Hutjens and Extension Dairy Specialist Phil Cardoso, both from the Department of Animal Sciences at U of I.
Other speakers include staff from Midwest Dairy Association and St. Louis District Dairy Council, who will provide an update on dairy promotion programs generated from checkoff funds. In addition, several dairy industry service representatives will be attending to display their latest company technology and management information. Come early to stop by their booths for a visit. Milk, coffee, and donuts will be available.
The $15 per person registration fee, collected at the door, includes lunch and a copy of the proceedings. Students are free. The summit is an excellent opportunity for participants to “take home” new ideas to put to work in their dairy operation.
