Midwest Dairy offers three Illinois-based opportunities to college students which are geared toward professional, educational and leadership development. Applications for each are due next month.

Summer Dairy Internship

Midwest Dairy offers a salaried 2018 summer internship in Illinois. The position is designed to assist Midwest Dairy staff with marketing communication objectives on behalf of the dairy checkoff. Duties include social media outreach, news release development, participation in exhibits and promotions, and involvement with activities conducted in conjunction with June Dairy Month, the Dairy Experience Forum and the Illinois State Fair.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be a student in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, or Arkansas, or be a permanent resident of those states. The candidate doesn’t need to be from a dairy farm, but those with knowledge of the dairy industry are preferred. Students possessing strong social media/communication skills and organizational skills are preferred.

The position requires the intern to locate within commuting distance of Springfield, Ill., where a bulk of the work will be based. Applicants must submit: a resume; a list of three references including, but not limited to, current and former employers; and a two-page, typed, double-spaced written essay describing two new initiatives that could help Midwest Dairy best serve its dairy farmer funders to drive product sales and/or provide a unique dairy experience bringing the farm to fork story to life.

Three $1,000 Scholarships

The Illinois Division of Midwest Dairy offers three $1,000 scholarships to students who come from a milking dairy farm in Illinois.

Scholarship applicant, or applicant’s parents/guardians/grandparents/sibling, must own a dairy farm residing in the state of Illinois and/or be employed on a dairy farm residing in Illinois and recommended by the producer.

Scholarships are awarded to students displaying leadership, work experience, academic performance, participation in activities and events, involvement in a dairy farm and the dairy industry, and financial need.

Illinois Dairy Ambassador Program

The new Illinois Dairy Ambassador program is an educational and informational opportunity implemented by Midwest Dairy in conjunction with the University of Illinois. The Dairy Ambassador Program is designed to give experiences and opportunities for future dairy champions while promoting Illinois’s dairy community and giving consumers an excellent dairy experience.

Midwest Dairy will accept up to four Dairy Ambassadors for this one-year program running from March 15, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2018. Based on their level of participation, students who complete the program would receive a scholarship up to $1,000.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an Illinois post-secondary school for the duration of the appointment and must be able to complete program requirements. They must communicate effectively through email and/or text messaging and have dependable transportation.
