The annual Select Reproductive Solutions® (SRS®) conference was hosted by Premier Select Sires in Roanoke, Va., with 89 individuals in attendance from Select Sires’ member organizations, World Wide Sires and industry partners. The three-day educational conference and on-farm training event welcomed individuals from 23 states, Canada, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.
“As the dairy industry innovates and evolves, so must our service specialists. The 2019 SRS conference provided excellent opportunities to collaborate and analyze information first-hand,” says Dr. Ray Nebel, vice president of technical services. “Select Sires’ SRS specialists continue to expand and refine their skillsets to bring the best in services and expertise to our cooperative’s customer-owners.”
Classroom-style sessions included discussions from experts and industry partners and featured presentations about genomics and fertility, inventory management, sire fertility, industry data, and steps to increase profitability.
Following the formal discussions and presentations, attendees engaged in on-farm training. Specialists were divided into 15 four-member teams to develop reproductive, genetic and inventory audits at Van der Hyde Dairy in Chatham, Va. After on-farm evaluation and analysis of dairy records information, the teams prepared and developed presentations regarding opportunities for improvement and points of strength for a panel of four judges.
