To provide new and experienced managers – including farm owners, herdspersons, managers and other agribusiness professionals – with the tools and leadership skills needed to succeed in today’s dairy industry is the goal of the new PDPW Dairy Managers Institute™, presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW).

The intensive, two-phase program weaves classroom sessions, self-study, and peer-to-peer interaction along with ongoing support networks and webinars to provide the most effective leadership development experience. The first session will be held on August 13-14, 2019 at the Best Western Plus Inn Towner, Madison, Wis., then conclude with a follow-up session on Dec. 10.

The training sessions will focus on:

  • Making Yourself a Priority. Develop strategies for change management and delegating responsibilities, as well as understanding your strengths and weaknesses as a leader. In addition to identifying your leadership type, develop key solutions to time management, performance and productivity.
  • Attracting and Hiring the Right People. Learn the most important interview questions and discover strategies for getting employees off to the right start in the first month. Learn how to engage talent and create a magnetic team culture.
  • Engage, Develop and Retain Employees. Understand how to professionally handle productivity challenges with employees, how to communicate more effectively, enhance cooperation and discover and activate your team’s talents through implementation of the “7 R’s & 1 C” of employee engagement, followed by the five essential elements of actionable accountability. Gain insights and strategy to increase overall employee productivity and performance by stepping out past “micro-managing” practices and behaviors.

“Today’s farmers and industry must be prepared to not only hire and retain the best team, but also lead them through challenging professional and personal times,” said Katy Schultz, dairy farmer from Fox Lake, Wis. “Building and polishing management skills and leadership strategies at the PDPW Dairy Managers Institute will prepare our farms for the day-to-day challenges of today and tomorrow.”

Presenters include Trevina Broussard, founder of Frontline Success Training and Consulting, and Becky Stewart-Gross, owner, founder and president of Building Bridges Seminars.
