Rose Stieg of Hersey, Michigan received the 2020 Excellence in Dairy Promotion Award from the United Dairy Industry of Michigan. She is joined by her family.

The United Dairy Industry of Michigan (UDIM) honored Rose Stieg of Hersey, Michigan, with the 2020 Excellence in Dairy Promotion Award at the Great Lakes Regional Dairy Conference. This award recognizes one outstanding Michigan dairy farm family member for their dedication to promoting dairy foods and their local dairy community.

“To describe Rose’s passion for advocating for the dairy industry as admirable doesn’t quite do it justice,” said Jim Reid, UDIM President. “A true champion of the Michigan dairy farmer, Rose clearly believes in sharing the story that Milk Means More, starting with the youth in her community.”

Rose grew up on a dairy farm in Las Vegas, New Mexico, before her family moved to Hersey, Michigan. In 1979, she and her husband Louie started their registered herd, and they now milk 80 registered Holstein and Brown Swiss cows.

She has promoted dairy for many years, including going to preschools to make butter and teaching youth in the community about dairy farming. Rose also volunteers with the Great Dairy Adventure and the Osceola County 4-H & FFA Fair. Her family hosted a Christmas farm tour to share their story with the public in December 2019.

“In true farming grit, she continues to work while going through adversity, displaying the true heart and strength of an American dairy farmer,” said Angie Moore, who nominated Stieg for the award.

If you are interested in nominating someone for the Excellence in Dairy Promotion award, nominations will be accepted for the 2021 winner from Nov. 1 – Dec. 31, 2020. Contact Jolene Griffin at Jolene@MilkMeansMore.org with questions about the application process.
