Dr. David Carlson recently joined Vita Plus as a dairy nutritionist and technical services specialist. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, Carlson will provide technical support for Vita Plus field staff, dealers, and customers in southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, and eastern Iowa. In addition, Carlson will remain up to date on current research and technologies to lead dairy nutrition and management training initiatives.

Carlson was raised on a small dairy farm in North Dakota and attended North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he received his bachelor’s degree in animal sciences and then his master’s degree in ruminant nutrition. He received his Ph.D. in dairy nutrition from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where his research focused on transition dairy cow nutrition. Upon completion of his Ph.D., Carlson worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at NDSU before joining a milk replacer manufacturer as a technical services manager. Most recently, Carlson worked for an animal health company as a dairy technical consultant, where his primary roles were to provide technical sales support to dairy producers, consultants, and feed manufacturers, as well as coordinate post-approval product research.
