“I deeply believe in the value of dairy and love UDIM’s commitment to sharing dairy’s vital role in healthy diets with consumers,” Gerharter says. “As I’ve learned about the passion and dedication Michigan dairy farmers have for their farms, animals, families and communities, I’ve become hooked on helping tell the story of dairy on their behalf.

“In my role as CEO, I’m excited to explore new ideas that will propel the great work of our checkoff team even further while ensuring dairy farmers’ investment is managed efficiently and effectively,” she continues.

To this end, Gerharter is focused on supporting UDIM’s passionate team to build consumer trust in dairy foods while fostering cooperation across the checkoff federation to maximize dollars and elevate team efforts.

“Melissa stepped into the Interim CEO position and showed great leadership,” says Corby Werth, UDIM President, and Alpena, Michigan, dairy farmer. “We value her loyalty and dedication to UDIM and appreciate her forward-thinking attitude about the checkoff and the staff’s work.

“She’s well-respected by her peers, both locally and at the national level, provides clear communication and is enthusiastic about promoting dairy. The UDIM Board and staff are excited to see where the organization can go under her leadership,” he adds.

Gerharter and her husband Jake have three children and live in southeastern Michigan.
