Wisconsin Holstein AssociationThe Wisconsin Holstein Association is proud to announce the 2013 scholarship winners. 13 scholarships were awarded to members studying in agriculture or related fields at a two-year or four-year University. These outstanding members will receive their scholarships at the 2014 Junior Holstein Convention in the Wisconsin Dells.

Derrek Kamphuis from Brandon, Wis. will receive the Gordon Berg Memorial Scholarship. Gordon was a long-time Wisconsin Holstein member and breeder from Brownsville, Wis. This scholarship is given to a student enrolled in a technical college, two-year, or short course agriculture program. Kamphuis is the 17-year-old son of Steve and Sue Kamphuis. He is a senior at Laconia High School and plans to return to the family farm after finishing school.

Receiving the Doris Morris Memorial Scholarship is Bethany Dado from Amery, Wis. This scholarship is in honor of Doris who was a longtime Wisconsin Holstein member. Doris and her husband Arden, along with Arden's brother, Maldwyn, and his wife, Inez, owned and operated Arwyn Farms in Waukesha County for over 40 years. Dado is the 19-year-old daughter of Richard and Gwen Dado. She is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in dairy science and genetics with plans to work in agriculture research or become a dairy science professor.

Ryan Pralle from Humbird, Wis. will receive the Bradley Fust Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is given in memory of Brad who was an enthusiastic member of the Junior Holstein Association from Wausau, Wis. Pralle is the 19-year-old son of Scott and Pam Pralle. He is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in dairy science and genetics with plans to work in the molecular and chemistry field after graduate school.

In addition, ten more well deserving Wisconsin Holstein Juniors will also receive four-year scholarships. Recipients include Kayla Kruger, Ethan Dado, John Klossner, Morgan Behnke, Elizabeth Endres, Rachel Hartlaub, Valerie Kramer, Cassandra Endres, Andrea Pagenkopf and Bryce Krull.

The National Distinguished Junior Member representatives will be announced at the 2014 Junior Holstein Convention banquet in December where they will receive a scholastic achievement scholarship for 2013 as well.

For several years, the Ames family has awarded a $500 scholarship in memory of their parents, John and Isabelle Ames of Ames-Way Holsteins, Darien, WI. This year's recipient is Cara Biely from Menchalville, Wis. Cara is the 21 year-old daughter of Mark and Lois Biely and was recently named the 2012 Outstanding Wisconsin Holstein Girl.

Wisconsin Holstein would like to congratulate all of these outstanding members as they have a bright future in front of them. We invite all Wisconsin Holstein members planning to attend a two or four-year college to apply for a scholarship in 2014.
