That's how we enthusiastically feel about one of our favorite websites celebrating its first birthday. HumaneWatch.org turned 1 recently, and what a present it has been for everyone who hates deceptive and misrepresentative attacks on animal agriculture by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

If you've never visited the site and read its blog, if a day is going poorly and you need a pick-me-up, go take a look for a few minutes. It'll probably fire you up in a very good way. To commemorate its anniversary of being a watchdog exposing the true colors of HSUS, HumaneWatch.org renewed its public pledge to forever shut down its site if HSUS promised to give 50 percent of its budget to animal shelters.

Crickets are chirping amid the silence from HSUS.

The website calls HSUS "a humane society in name only" and is relentless in its efforts to expose it as a donation-generating money machine that actually contributes more to its executive pension program than it does to animal shelters. HumaneWatch.org says from 1998 to 2009 the pension fund grand total was winning $14.8 million to $16.3 million. It also says that, according to a 2009 consolidated financial statement, HSUS was worth $191.3 million and had a budget of $121 million. Total contributions to animal shelters that year were $976,775 – less than 1 percent of its budget.
