Steve Clarken joins an expanding team of experienced animal health professionals at Algal Scientific, a world leader in algae-based technology for animal and human health. He brings 30 years of domestic and international experience in animal health, pharmaceuticals, biologics and devices.

As president of animal health and nutrition, Clarken will lead the animal health business unit as well as provide leadership throughout the organization. ProGlucan™ is the world’s first beta glucan produced commercially from algae. Beta glucan is well known to support immune function in swine, poultry and aquaculture production. Global research and livestock trials have demonstrated ProGlucan’s positive effect on growth rates, feed conversion ratios and resistance to disease challenges in livestock.

“Steve’s extensive experience in animal health and nutrition will be a significant asset to our company,” said John Tucker, chief executive officer of Algal Scientific. “His expertise will escalate our work and commitment to improving the health, welfare and performance of livestock in the United States and around the world.”

Prior to joining Algal, Clarken advanced through roles with Zoetis as the vice president of the poultry division’s U.S. operations and vice president and general manager of the company’s global poultry division encompassing biologicals, pharmaceuticals, and poultry/human flu devices. After transforming the U.S. poultry division into the fastest growing poultry business nationwide with top market share in both the antimicrobial and device markets, Clarken oversaw strategic direction, R&D, engineering, commercial and production operations for the 200-employee global poultry organization generating $600 million annually.

“Helping livestock producers maximize the health and performance of their animals has always been my focus,” Clarken says. “I’m excited about this opportunity to work with an emerging company that is committed to bringing a new level of science to nutrition-based immune health.”
