Today the U.S. House Judiciary Committee passed HR 4092, "The Agricultural Guestworker Act," by a vote of 17-16. This marks the first action in Congress in more than four years on the top federal legislative priority for California's dairy farm families - an effective fix for the ag labor crisis. Western United Dairymen commends Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) for his success in taking this important first step in addressing this critical issue.
"Western United Dairymen is recognized as a national leader on seeking immigration reform that would benefit dairy producers and our workers," said WUD President Frank Mendonsa. "We look forward to continuing to work with the members of the California congressional delegation and House leadership, from both sides of the aisle, and agricultural groups in the state and across the nation on the next steps toward passing legislation to fix the farm labor crisis," continued Mendonsa.
