
Business owners, agricultural producers, and entrepreneurs are invited to attend the four-part Farm Sense Farm Financial and Production Management workshop series on Feb. 18, 25 and March 3, 10, 2020 at the Penn State Extension Dauphin County Office, 1451 Peters Mountain Road, Dauphin, PA 17018-9504. This workshop series is an introduction to managing finances of agricultural businesses.
Farm Sense Farm Financial and Production Management course teaches four main concepts around the key elements of cash flow statements, balance sheets, income statements, and financial analytics. Course participants will learn how to use their financial records to calculate benchmarks and make informed managerial decisions for the business. They will also learn to build custom farm financial statements.
All agricultural businesses are welcome to attend, including livestock, dairy, horticulture, landscape and nursery, orchard growers, greenhouse operators, and vegetable operations. Diversified farms producing multiple items can benefit from Farm Sense. Class participants will receive face-to-face, one-on-one and hands-on business training from acclaimed and experienced Penn State University Extension agriculture business educators.
Farm Sense meets all USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Borrower Training requirements for both production and financial modules. Additionally, Farm Sense qualifies for four Smart-Start credits from AgChoice Farm Credit.
Registration is $350 for one farm participant and $35 additional dollars for each guest of the same farm. This includes all course material, a textbook, all hands-on assistance from agribusiness instructors and a catered lunch each of the four days. Visit https://extension.psu.edu/farm-sense.
