Anchored by high individuals in both contests, the University of Minnesota and Minnesota 4-H won their respective contests by 23 and 32 points respectively at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky.
The Golden Gopher team was paced Karen Anderson who was last year's high individual in the National 4-H Contest. She finished with 701 points or a 46.73 on 10 placings and 5 sets of reasons. Teammate Caitlin Durow finished second with a 45.5-point average. Elizabeth Olson joined this duo to win the reasons competition. Anderson was first in reasons, averaging 47.2 on five sets with Olson placing third and Durow finishing fifth. The team easily outpaced the second place team by a 24-point margin. As a team, Minnesota won the Guernsey, Holstein, and Jersey breeds. Finishing second in the contest was Penn State. Leading the Nittany Lions was Hannah Wentworth and Philip Bachman who were third and fourth. There were 17 teams in the contest.

In the 4-H contest, Erin Daninger paced her team with a 45-point average on ten classes and three sets of reasons. Teammate Isaac Salfter placed sixth. Minnesota won the Holstein and Guernsey breed competition. In second, was the team from Wisconsin; they were lead by Trent Styczinski who finished second. Maryland's Lizzie Davis won the reasons with a 46.7 average. She finished fourth overall and helped pace her Maryland team to a third place finish, just one point behind Wisconsin. There were 24 teams in the contest.
