Dairy markets are beginning to improve according to the Dairy Market News for the week of July 26-30, 2010.
Both class and component prices for July 2010 under the Federal Milk Order pricing system are up. Class III price has gone up $0.12 from last month's $13.62 to $13.74. Class IV pricing has improved also, rising $0.30, from $15.45 to $15.75. This is a marked improvement over the Class III price we saw last July (+$3.77).
Commercial disappearance of dairy products during the first five months of 2010 totaled 79.1 billion pounds. This is a 2.3 percent improvement over the 2009 value of 77.3 billion pounds, for the same time period. Butter, other cheese, and nonfat dry milk have increased 1.3 percent, 4.7 percent, and 15.4 percent, respectively. American cheese and fluid milk product commercial disappearance levels have decreased 0.6 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively.
Last year's values had an opposite trend with positive values for American cheese and fluid milk commercial disappearance and negative values butter, other cheese and nonfat dry milk.
