Our cattle were constantly licking the bottom of our float and getting it out of socket, letting the water free flow and making a big mess. To prevent this, we cut a 16-gallon barrel to fit over the float and screwed it down, keeping the animals away from it. The cover also helps the float not freeze as quickly.
