This letter is in response to the "Be the ant, not the grasshopper" article in last week's Hoard's Dairyman Intel email:

Could it be today's grasshopper can see little value in a program that helps the processor - not the producer? To have to wait 60 days at a loss of $4 at 90 percent of production makes no dollar sense at all!

I do not see where a program that makes you lose money for two months before it kicks in is a handout. It is based on 90 percent of production and does nothing to cover the other 43 percent of the cost of doing business - never mind allowing a profit! I can see why the ants may go for it because most of them are underground in the dark and do not have a clue as to what's going on. At least the grasshopper is aboveground and has its eyes open.
