Lakeshore Technical College students and faculty garnered several awards at the state level of the National Postsecondary Agricultural Student Organization (PAS) held at Chula Vista in Wisconsin Dells on February 8 and 9.The PAS is associated with all agricultural related curriculums in approved postsecondary institutions that offer baccalaureate degrees, associate degrees, diplomas and/or certificates. PAS is one of the 11 career and technical student organizations that has been approved by the U. S. Department of Education as an integral part of career and technical education.
LTC was one of 9 technical colleges to participate in the event and a total of 157 students competed in a variety of events during the two day convention.
LTC students Tyler Wonser, Kendra Krcma, and Emily Kane formed the Dairy Specialist Team that took first place honors while the team of Olivia Hennes, Allison Babler, Leanna Scholten finished fifth in the same competition.
LTC also had the Top Individual Dairy Specialist, Emily Kane, who claimed the 1st place honor out of 35 participants and 12 teams. LTC student Tyler Wonser was also recognized for finishing 4th.
In the Employment Interviewing Ag Education Area, Bea Jentsch of LTC took 2nd place.
To top off the conference, LTC Dairy Herd Management Instructor Sheryl Nehls was named the PAS Advisor of The Year in the state of Wisconsin.
The agricultural industry is looking for technically trained students to meet their workforce needs that have the ability to adapt and flex with the constant changes of the workplace. The PAS provides leadership experiences for students who will become the future employees and leaders within those communities served by these educational institutions. Students involved with the PAS as members at the local, state and national level develop the skills necessary to meet the ever-changing landscape of the agricultural industry of today.
Next event for the LTC contingent is the national conference which will be held March 16-18 in Kansas City. Two teams from LTC have qualified to compete.
