The April 2021 Hoard’s Dairyman Bull List is now available.

In this month’s evaluation, Holstein bull Hurtgenlea Richard Charl becomes the first proven sire to reach 3000 TPI. He tops the breed lists for Net Merit, Cheese Merit, and Total Performance Index (TPI) by significant margins.

On the genomic side, Charl sons Genosource Captain, Jack, and John tie for the No. 1 GTPI spot at 3162. In fact, these three bulls share all of their genetic evaluation numbers because Jack and John are clones of Captain, who has remained in the top three on the GTPI list since his debut at No. 2 in December 2019. They are only surpassed on the genomic Net Merit and Cheese Merit lists by December’s leader in those categories, Pine-Tree Tennessee.

By the numbers

Over 3,700 genomic young bulls were reported as active for the April evaluation. Those sires account for nearly 70% of all bulls marketed, a tiny slide from the 71% market share they commanded in December. 1,678 proven bulls were evaluated.

You can access the full sire rankings for genomic and proven bulls of all breeds now.
